Payment verification

Making every payment verifiable for a payments business

A payments business needed to be certain that every payment was correct and complete, and to prove it to merchants and auditors. We built the system that gives them that certainty.

The challenge

For a payments business, trust depends on getting every payment right. Merchants need a quick, reliable answer at the till, and the business needs to be able to explain any payment to a merchant, a partner or an auditor.

The client’s team was small, and they could not afford to check unusual payments by hand or to lose track of a payment during a system outage.

The goals

  • Confirm every payment automatically and accurately
  • Never lose or duplicate a payment, even after an outage
  • Handle unusual cases in the system, rather than through a support queue
  • Keep a clear record that answers any question about a payment

How we helped

We designed and built a dedicated payment verification service. It checks each payment thoroughly before confirming it, sends anything unusual for review rather than accepting or rejecting it silently, and recovers automatically after any interruption.

Every decision the service makes is recorded along with the reason for it, so the business never has to piece together what happened after the event.

The outcome

Merchants get a clear answer on every payment. The business can explain any payment from its own records, and its small team can take on larger merchants without taking on more manual work.

If this sounds like your situation, start with an assessment

An assessment takes two to three weeks, and gives you a written view of where you are today and a costed plan. It does not have to lead to a build, and that is a perfectly good outcome.
